Inner Life Practitioner
A somatic approach; listening to the body, connecting with yourself
As an Inner Life Practitioner, I facilitate a dialogue with the body’s wisdom to transform patterns in the way we love and relate, and to create a deeper connection with ourselves.
Through gentle attention to bodily sensations, I invite you to listen deeply to your body’s consciousness and explore the emotions, memories and patterns that may be held within it.
A session can open a pathway to parts of ourselves that may be difficult to access through the mind alone. The work may explore present experiences as well as ancestral patterns, in-utero experiences, past-life material, personal myths and archetypal themes, according to what emerges naturally during the session.
Somatic work can be particularly meaningful for those experiencing recurring emotional or relational patterns, disconnection from the body, persistent physical symptoms, or difficulties with presence and self-awareness.
Sessions are an invitation to slow down, listen and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself and your body.
Who is this work for?
For those who feel they:
- often live “in their head” and find it difficult to feel fully present;
- repeat the same patterns in relationships;
- carry tension, blocks or emotions that are difficult to understand;
- feel disconnected from their body or their needs;
- desire greater awareness, balance and inner connection;
- live with persistent physical symptoms or chronic conditions and wish to explore the relationship between body, emotions and personal experience*;
- are in recovery from an addiction and want to develop a more conscious and compassionate relationship with their body*.
You don’t need to arrive with a diagnosis, a crisis or even a clearly defined problem. You may simply be curious about yourself, your relationships and the way you move through the world.
Sometimes, the desire to know yourself more deeply is reason enough to begin.
During a session
In a safe and respectful space, we will work together to:
- listen to the sensations of the body;
- explore what emerges without judgment;
- meet emotions and inner parts with greater compassion;
- develop a deeper relationship with yourself.
The body doesn’t lie: it often holds a wisdom that is simply waiting to be heard.
* The sessions do not replace medical, psychological or addiction treatment, but may complement these forms of care as a pathway for exploration and greater body awareness.
The Approach
The session begins with whatever is present for you. We may start with a specific experience, a feeling, a question, a relationship, or simply a sense that something in your life is asking for your attention. From there, we move into the body, using sensation, feeling and the body’s own responses as a way of exploring what lies underneath the surface.
For some people, this may be their first experience of working somatically. For others, it may open a door into territory they have already explored. The work meets you where you are.
Sometimes the body gives us a clear response immediately; sometimes it takes time to establish a sense of safety and connection. And sometimes a seemingly simple sensation opens into a much deeper layer of experience.
This work is an exploration of what your body is ready to show us. We listen together, and when something resonates – in you, in your body, and in the space between us – we can follow it further. That may lead into deeper work around relationships, intimacy, emotional patterns, early experience, belonging, creativity, identity or other areas that emerge organically from the session.
You don’t have to know what is underneath your experience before you begin. You only need enough curiosity to listen.
A Somatic Approach to Relationships
Why do some relationships make us feel safe, while others trigger fear, withdrawal or pain?
The body often holds deep memories connected to the ways we learned to love, protect ourselves and relate to others.
Through a somatic approach, we can explore:
Fear of intimacy and abandonment – Difficulty trusting or letting go – Recurring relationship patterns – The relationship between the past, the body and present emotions.
Why I Work This Way
In addition to my background as an author and journalist, I am a certified Body Deva® practitioner, trained by spiritual healer Mary Shutan.
After years of analytical and therapeutic work on myself, I found that I needed to access a deeper layer of knowing – one that could not be reached through the mind alone. Somatic work gave me a way to listen to what my body was communicating and to connect with experiences that I could understand intellectually but had not yet fully felt or embodied.
Body Deva® is based on the understanding that the body has its own intelligence and communicates through sensations, feelings, images and memories. Rather than analyzing a problem intellectually, we slow down and listen to how it is experienced in the body.
I share this work because I found this deeper level of listening transformative in my own process, and I want to offer others the opportunity to access it for themselves.
My work is about creating the space to listen to the body, discover what it may be communicating, and develop a deeper, more compassionate relationship with yourself.
